Summer is arguably one of the most pleasant seasons in Whitehorse. It’s when the population is buzzing with tourists and when residents can really get out and enjoy everything we have to offer. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a family who doesn’t camp, hike, or fish the local waterways. We are surrounded by freshwater lakes, rivers, streams, and natural hot springs. Canoe trips, kayak excursions, and even rafting are popular pastimes. Talk to the locals to learn more about the best fishing spots!
Whitehorse isn’t afraid of frigid temperatures and snow. In fact, we learn to embrace the winter season. Hunting, fishing, and quadding are all extremely popular in the winter season. You’ll see lots of flatbeds with snowmobiles and ATVs primed for adventure in the winter. We are also recognized as the host city for the Yukon Quest sled dog race each year. This is a yearly event considered to be a grueling test of endurance for its participants who travel between Whitehorse and Fairbanks, Alaska.
If you have an active family then you’ll be pleased to discover that there is endless opportunity for sports and activities. Indoor and outdoor sports and recreational activities are provided throughout the city across various ice rinks, fields, and recreation centers. One of the most popular places to visit for activities is the Canada Games Centre Multiplex. The CGC provides access to pools, a fitness center, and a track.
In addition to rec reaction centers and sports surfaces, there are also opportunities for golf, skiing, and other recreational pursuits. Whatever your passion you’re sure to find a like-minded community here in Whitehorse!
